Dear Parents, Educators and Therapists This game offers your child the chance to develop their powers of perception. It will also involve you in helping them learn how to look closely and compare for example the length of arrows or to do a tangram according to a picture model as quickly as possible. We have collected some specific background information in the enclosed leaflet “Our senses“. We wish you lots of fun on this “exciting sensory journey”. Yours sincerely, The inventors of playthings
Game Idea
You will meet a lot of challenges requiring good observation skills on this journey through the senses! Once you have solved a problem, you will get a wooden coin as a reward. Who will make good use of their senses and be the first to collect five wooden coins?
Preparation of the Game
Put the game board in the center of the table and place the play figure Erwin Eagle Eye on any activity square. Sort the cards by the colors and make five piles of them face-down next to the game board. Get the remaining game material ready next to the game board as well.
How to Play
Play in a clockwise direction. The youngest sensory explorer starts and rolls the die: • If you roll a number of dots, move Erwin Eagle Eye the same number of squares in a clockwise direction. • If you roll the symbol of the planet, you can place the Erwin Eagle Eye on any of the activity squares. What type of activity is shown on the square where Erwin is?
The master of Tangram
• The player who rolled the die is the Tangram master and places the seven tiles in front of him. • Then he uncovers a yellow Tangram card and tries to arrange the tiles as quickly as possible in the same way as shown. • In the meantime the other players one by one throw the die and try to roll the symbol of the planet three times, as quickly as they can. They count out loud the number of times the symbol appears on the die. • If the master manages to compose the Tangram before the other players have rolled the symbol three times, he receives a wooden coin as a reward. • If the other players were quicker and have rolled the symbol three times, he doesn't get a coin. • The Tangram card is returned to the bottom of the deck of yellow cards
Lengths of arrows
• The player who has rolled the die uncovers two orange arrow cards and places them next to each other. • He compares the two arrows shown and announces which arrow he thinks is longer. • The other players check his answer by means of the ruler measuring the exact length of the two arrows. • If his guess was right, he gets a wooden coin. • Both arrow cards are then returned to the bottom of the deck of orange cards.
Flowers and insects
• Uncover the eight green cards and place them next to the game board. They must not overlap and should be within easy reach of everyone. • All players take part in this activity and can win a wooden coin. • One player rolls both white dice. • Then everybody searches for the card which shows both the corresponding flower (red rose, orange rose, red tulip, orange tulip) and the right insect (bee or caterpillar). • Whoever spots the right card first puts his hand on it and gets a wooden coin as a reward. • Important: You can only use one hand. If the card isn’t found, no coins are awarded.
Eagle Eye
• Spread the seven Tangram tiles next to the game board. They must not overlap and should be within easy reach of everyone. • All players take part in this activity and can win a wooden coin. • A player uncovers a blue card (showing shapes) so that everyone can see it clearly. • Now all look at once for the Tangram tile of the same shape as shown on the card, quickly take it and place it in front of you. Important: There are two big and two small triangle tiles. So whenever a triangle is searched for, there are two solutions. • You can take no more than one tile. • Then you check who picked correctly. To do so you place the tiles one by one on the card. Whenever outline and illustration match you get a wooden coin as a reward. • The blue card is then returned to the bottom of pile of blue cards.
Animal detective
• The player who rolled the die is the animal detective. • The other players choose three of the white animal cards and place them in front of the detective. • The detective has 20 seconds to memorize the 12 animals shown on the cards. Then he has to turn around. • The other players agree -in silence- on one of the animals and cover it with the square Tangram tile. • The detective can turn round again and should announce which animal has been covered. • If his guess is right, he gets a wooden coin as a reward. Then it's the turn of the next player in a clockwise direction to roll the die. End of the Game The game ends as soon as the first sensory explorer has collected five wooden coins thus winning the game. If two sensory explorers do so, then they win together.
